An exploration into creating designs based on traditional kōwhaiwhai and heke patterns which are intentionally linked to whakapapa.
Design Kahungunu is an opportunity for Iwi Toi Kahungunu artists to come together to explore traditional styles and, in doing so, develop and create new designs.
This exhibition also supports the artists in their creative endeavours, ushering in a new generation of ringatoi alongside well-established artists, led by Dr Sandy Adsett.
