When travelling in New Zealand most people find that there will come a time in their travels when calling home to speak to friends and family is required - but if its 2pm here in Napier - what time will it be in Athens, Greece, or if it's the 25th December here in New Zealand is it that in the Cook Islands?

Make sure your family are awake and alert or you don't miss that special someone's birthday by using the world time and date website.

Useful Tips

Travel Exchange

When travelling in New Zealand our local currency is the called 'New Zealand dollar'. We have notes in denominations of $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5. The current coins in circulation are $2.00, $1.00, 50c, 20c and 10c. We also operate a 'rounding' system for purchases when the exact amount is not able to be paid for in cash i.e 75c, 99c -the following rules give you guidelines how to apply this system:

  • round down to the nearest 10 cent value for sales ending in 1c, 2c, 3c, 4c;
  • round up to the nearest 10 cent value for sales ending in 6c, 7c, 8c, 9c

Conferencing and Incentive Travel to Hawkes Bay

Are you after some new inspiration for your next conference? Would you prefer to spend time on the content of your conference, rather than arranging the travel and accommodation for everyone?

We can take the hassle out of your next Hawkes Bay based conference and are able to suggest ideas and activities beyond the norm. We are able to plan and implement your HB conference - or work in conjunction with your conference co-ordinator - to ensure that your next meeting gets the thumbs up from everyone.

Public Holidays

New Zealand has 10 days nationwide public holidays per annum, along with an additional 1 day for each regions own anniversary day (this day differs region to region). On public holidays you will generally find most essential services and tourism facilities are open i.e Garages, Petrol Stations, Par2 Minigolf, however, please be aware that if you dine at a restaurant on a public holiday you may incur a surcharge on the stated prices, which can vary from 10-15% per item -however, please note that if a surcharge is incurred the facility must make it very clear before purchase.

Daylight Savings

So you can make the most out of your time in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand has daylight savings during the summer months - giving you long warm days to enjoy our region. For information on the dates for daylight saving please select the link below.

School Holidays

The New Zealand school system is divided into three categories, primary, intermediate and secondary school and whilst each schools start and end date may vary slightly the link below will provide you with update information regarding the 4 term school year.

Electrical Supply

There is no worldwide standard electricity mains voltage or frequency, so it is important to ensure that electrical appliances from other countries are able to be used safely in New Zealand.

Electricity throughout New Zealand is supplied at a nominal voltage of 230 volts and 50 hertz, although most hotels and motels provide 110 volt AC sockets (rated at 20 watts) for electric razors only.

Unless an electrical appliance or item has a multi-voltage option, it is necessary to use an adapter or converter for all other equipment.

We have a large range of electrical converters available for purchase at the Napier i-SITE, Marine Parade.

Power outlets in New Zealand use only a flat three or two-pin plug, depending on whether an earth connection is fitted.
