Preparations are underway for a 2021 SING-IN in the Waiapu Cathedral in Napier, the third one we have held in recent years. This will be a wonderful afternoon of music-making, after so many choral events being cancelled or postponed lately.
Anyone who can read a music score and loves to sing is welcome to come along. The main music we will learn this year is the beautiful Vivaldi GLORIA – a perennial favourite – and if time allows we will also look at anthems by Mozart, Handel and Haydn. These pieces are some of the most well-loved chorales in the sacred repertoire.
The workshop will once again be led by Anthony Tattersall, Director of Music at Waiapu Cathedral, and Michael Fletcher, until recently Director of Music at the Catholic Cathedral in Wellington; both men are expert musicians, wonderful organists, encouraging conductors – and fun to work with too!
Bonus! - the Sing-in is on the same date as the Arts Festival Nuit Blanche in Napier, so attendees can stay on to enjoy the galleries, street entertainment, cafes and bars, and sights and sounds of the city in celebration mode.
Note that our ability to run the event is dependent on the Covid level, so if we are not in Level 1 by mid-October we will postpone the Sing-in until November 13th. We are not asking for payment ($20 for adults, $5 for students) until the day. But it will be helpful to know how many people to expect, so we can organise supplies of scores, tea, coffee, etc. If you are keen to participate in the 2021 Sing-in, please contact me by phone or email (details below) so I can add your details to the list. Then I will be able to contact you if necessary.
We are very grateful for the financial support of a Napier City Council Creative Communities 2021 grant.
PS. If you don’t want to sing in the choir, but would like to hear the results of the afternoon’s work, do come along to the concert at about 4:15 pm – all are welcome, so tell your family and friends. The Sing-in choir would love to have an audience! Entry fees help cover expenses.
