Born in, and working out of an apartment studio in New Plymouth, Jordan Barnes is recognised as an artistic all-rounder. He’s an award winning painter and is considered to be one of New Zealand’s top emerging artists.
Jordan is equally passionate about song writing, releasing his debut album on US indie label ‘Lazy Bones Recordings’ in 2015, followed up by his sophomore album ‘Theories’ in 2017. Jordan is intensely curious about people. The common thread in his work is the study of the human. It is all about people and how they think and feel.
For this exhibition, The Artist and the Ego, Barnes has spent the last half of 2020 creating a body of work for the Holt Gallery. The Artist and the Ego explores Jordan’s interest in Jungian psychology. Through painting, music and film, Jordan is trying to extend his knowledge of the self, and better understand the beliefs and behaviours of others.
