Language of Art; Work by Christine Lemin and Friends

Language of Art; Work by Christine Lemin and Friends

There is a saying – “Words cast spells, that’s why it’s called spelling.”

Words can hurt, heal, love, scare, make people laugh and they can be metaphorical.

Christine Lemin teaches art classes from her studio in Napier. The group she regularly teaches began to play around with art and words. After all, language too, is an art form.

During art classes they often discussed what making art has taught them and how it supports us at times. During one discussion they talked about language & words and the effect they have on us.

It is the same when creating art. It becomes a very effective, gentle tool in showing us much about ourselves. This often encourages us to talk about things we may have been carrying at a subconscious level so that it becomes a journey of acknowledgment and letting go.

We learn to relax and enjoy where it takes us whilst keeping an open mind without criticism. This openness allows us to look inwardly at ourselves and as the art work flows without expectations, there can be no disappointments.

Christine invited three of her students to show some of their pieces with hers, to which they kindly agreed; ‘It’s a privilege to have them exhibit with me. I thank them sincerely for agreeing to do so.’

They are: Janett Levien, Carla Pegg and Glenys Steed.
