Allan Paley is an artist based in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay. He studied for a Bachelor of Visual Art and Design at EIT, and he’s been exhibiting artwork at galleries since 2000.
Allan has been working in the field of ceramics, sculpture, painting and installation for the last 40 years. He exhibits regionally in dealer galleries.
Allan’s research within arts and crafts involves an exploration of boundaries between physical, psychological and cultural spaces. He investigates the intersections and borders between the handmade and the industrial, the organic and inorganic world. His particular focus is on the transformational properties of materials and how they overlap and connect.
Allan likes to explore how local environmental issues can be expressed in sculpture and paint, and finds innovative ways to question political and corporate processes that affect the environment.
