Cross Structure Book Binding Workshop

Cross Structure Book Binding Workshop

In this fun and structured workshop you will make a basic binding to understand the concept of book making and binding, using the ‘Carmencho’ technique.

The soft covered book created is ideal as a journal or a sketchbook when blank pages are used. Alternatively you can bind printed pages or magazines. The great thing about this binding is that it is flexible enough that pages can be added later.

By using contrasting colours/ textures/ materials along with various weaving patterns this structure may become your new favourite binding!

This workshop is suitable for those with little or no experience. Expert Terrie Reddish will guide you step-by-step through the process in the relaxed atmosphere of the CAN workshop. Meet new friends and learn a new skill, while having fun at the same time!

There are seven different crossed structure bindings – all are non-adhesive variations on long-stitch bindings. For inspiration see pictures at:

Please bring:

- Large Needle and sewing threads – embroidery cotton, linen thread, heavy weight polyester thread etc

- Cutting tools = scissors, snap off knife and spare blades, awl if you have one
