Winner of the coveted 2022 Taite Music Prize, kiwi singer-songwriter Anthonie Tonnon presents his third album, Leave Love Out of This, out now on Nadia Reid’s Slow Time Records.
After three years of critically-acclaimed and uniquely captivating solo shows, A Synthesized Universe and Rail Land, Tonnon celebrates his new album with a full band and a highly physical show featuring Stuart Harwood on hybrid electric / acoustic drums, David Flyger on bass guitar / synthesised bass, Brooke Singer (French for Rabbits) on synthesisers and samples, and Sam Taylor (Nadia Reid) on electric guitars and percussion.
In Tonnon’s own words: “I was interested in 808s and other electronic instruments, but I wanted to find ways to play them with a sense of musicality and fragility. I wanted to find meeting places between organic and synthesized sound, and it’s exciting to expand this approach, with a large team, to celebrate the album.”
Tonnon finally graces our Festival stage – you don’t want to miss it!
“The best dressed balladeer in the business, Anthonie Tonnon is an ambitious songsmith and one of Aotearoa’s most engaging, inventive performers.” - Stuff.co.nz
"Tonnon's gift is the astute juxtaposition of the personal and the political, where social issues revolve around people up against family, lovers, corporate entities or bureaucracy. But at heart, love is the pivot." - Graham Reid for New Zealand Listener
