The Historical Tour focuses on the historical day-­to-­day workings of New Zealand’s oldest prison. Napier Prison has been listed as one of the 6 most haunted places in New Zealand and the Ghost Tour narrates gory stories about the people who were once incarcerated here and the strange things people experience to this day. The Prison has also been used as an insane asylum and orphanage, and has been home to many creepy happenings. 

Our resident ghost cat Basil may even make an appearance!

What is a live Escape Room?

You and up to 10 others get locked in a dedicated room full of clues and puzzles. You have 60 minutes to break out! Can you do it?

How does it work?

Using your eyes, ears, wits and wiles figure out the clues presented to you, open the locks that keep you from your goal and gather together what you need to escape. If all else fails, ask for a clue from your gaoler using the walkie talkies provided!

There are five rooms to choose between - Fresh Meat, The Prisoner's Dilemma, The Dark Enigma, Earning Your Stripes and the Therapy Unit. There are two identical "Earning your stripes" rooms so you can challenge your friends and see who can escape in the fastest time.

Be taken on a guided tour around the complex with our highly knowledgeable guides. Guided tours are only available by appointment and minimum numbers apply. During the summer season weekly guided tours may be scheduled on the weekends.
