Mountain Valley

Mountain Valley is a rural retreat located on a 300 acre farm on the Mohaka River, 45 minutes north of Napier with accommodation, activities - horse trekking,white water rafting, mountain biking, clay bird shooting, archery, fishing - a restaurant/bar and conference/event facilities.

Whether it's for a day or a stay, Mountain Valley is the perfect escape for any occasion.

$70.00 per person  - 1 hour

All of our treks are set in the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Mohaka River valley, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and native bush. Whether winding through the peaceful forests of pine, traversing around the farmland, or meandering by the crystal clear waters of the Mohaka River our horses and guides will take you on a real outdoor adventure unlike any other.

Using highly experienced guides who know our horses and the area intimately, we cater for complete novices through to experienced riders.

We Provide:

  • A noble steed

You Bring:

  • We recommend wearing long pants and riding boots or running shoes/ trainers for your trek
  • Camera
  • Jacket or wind-breaker
  • Sunscreen


  • Max rider weight 100kg
  • Minimum rider age 7 years (options for younger children are available see Pony Rides)

$40.00 per child or $35.00 per child for 2 or more children (approximately 30 minutes) 

Pony rides are perfect for younger children wanting to have a short ride with a guide or parent leading their horse. We offer gentle walks in the paddocks and on the trails around the property.

$89 per person (minimum age 5 years)
Take a gentle Mohaka river journey, perfect for young families and for those who want to just relax and soak up the scenery, wildlife and heritage of the river and its environment.
Our 1 - 1.5 hour raft trip winds its way through small, fun rapids through the breathtaking forest landscapes of the Mohaka Valley and includes:

  • 1-1.5 hours on river – 2.5-3 hours base to base
  • All on river apparel and rafting equipment
  • Full safety briefing
  • Clean changing facilities (including toilets)
You need to bring:
  • Swimsuit and towel
  • Any personal medication you may require
  • Change of clothes for after the trip
Transport: Return River Transport is Provided

With towering cliffs, canyons, amazing rock formations & awesome rapids the Grade 3 Wilderness Mohaka White Water Adventure is regarded as one of the very best river trips in NZ and with its rich NZ & Maori history, it provides a very unique NZ White Water Adventure experience.
  • 3-4 hours on river (dependent on river flows) – 6.5-7.5 hours base to base
  • All on river apparel and rafting equipment
  • Full safety briefing
  • Clean changing facilities (including toilets)
  • Optional cliff jumping and swimming

Come and hire a bike and soak up the magic of the Mohaka valley on two wheels. We will provide you with a series of options depending on your level of fitness and experience. Just potter around the property or alongside the river with the family for a while. Or perhaps ride our 5 km circuit along farm tracks, lane ways and forest trails.

If you really want a good workout, take off on some of our mountain trails which head up onto the top of the Maunguhururu range. A hard slog going up, but a superb downhill run coming back!

Of course you are welcome to bring your own bike to Mountain Valley, where you can access the trails on our property, or head off further afield along McVicar road towards the big hills of the highway.

The Paintball Course at Mountain Valley is set amongst beautiful bush land above the Mohaka River. We offer adrenaline pumping Paintball games which require different strategies to out-play opposing teams. Paintball is a fun team building game for all abilities, occasions and events with communication being the key to success.

It's is the ideal activity for old, young, big and small, birthday parties, corporate, stag and hen parties, social club, workmates, friends and family groups - get your team together and come on out! Minimum 6 people.


Clay Bird Shooting

$25.00 per person - 10 shot session ( minimum 2 people) and $2 per extra shot

Age limits apply - Group rates available for 10+ people



Half Hour session - $40.00 for 2 people, Additional person $10.00

Fun for the whole family with both adult and child size bows available.

Timing of session depends on numbers. Group rates available for 10+ people.

Fishing Rod Hire -  $15.00 per day

Raft Fishing Trip - $600.00 per day ( up to 2 anglers). Transport costs may apply

With 3kms of river frontage running along our borders, even the armchair fisherman can enjoy great fishing just a stone's throw from our lodge.

The Mohaka River, it's streams and tributaries, have long been heralded as one of the world's finest trout fisheries.

Please note that we do not sell permits, you will need to obtain your own from Fish and Game NZ.
