Afoot - Guided Walks and Treks

Afoot provides experienced personal guides for individually-designed tramping trips in the Ruahine and Kaweka Ranges of Hawkes Bay under a concession from the Department of Conservation.

Afoot offers half day and full day guided walks within an hour or two drive from Napier and longer multi day treks into rarely visited pristine native bush areas. Transport only options to tracks in the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges are also available.

Design your own trek or choose from one of the following:

White Pine Bush Half Day Walk - $125 per person.

White Pine Bush is a 19 hectare enclave of native kahikatea (white pine) forest and beautiful nīkau palm groves. There is a short 650 metre loop track, which takes in much of what the reserve has to offer and also a longer loop with some huge specimens of kahikatea.

A day trip to one of only six "Mainland Island" restoration projects undertaken by DOC.

The 800 ha Boundary Stream Scenic Reserve is located one hour north of Napier and is ideal for day trips with easy tramping and for experiencing New Zealand flora and fauna.

The pest eradication programme sees the wide range of plants providing an environment for increasing number of native birds such as tūī, bellbird, rifleman, tomtit, pīwakawaka (fantail), pōpokotea (whitehead), silver-eye, grey warbler, kererū and morepork.

Shine Falls in the park is spectacular at 68m and is a great place for a picnic (and a swim for the brave!).  Side trips to Lake Ōpouahi Kiwi Reserve, Lake Tūtira and White Pine Bush can be included in this day trip.
